Birder or not, the number one thing to do in Nata is to visit the Nata Bird Sanctuary. Nata Lodge offers daily three-hour sunset drives in open game drive vehicles to support the community-run reserve. Most famous for its thriving flamingo population and ephemeral lake, the sanctuary is set inside the Makgadikgadi Salt Pan network with quality wildlife sightings over and above the 165 bird species recorded here. Zebra, Wildebeest, Black-backed Jackals and Bat-Eared Foxes all roam freely. Sometimes hippos can be spotted too when enough water fills the pans. Wet or dry, these salt pans are always a spectacle! In the summer rainy season, Visitors can expect to see Sua Pan inundated when fed by the Nata river in the east and during the dry winter, the water evaporates to leave a dry ivory expanse that reaches the horizon.
Thatched chalets offer refuge after a long day on the road!
