Mma Dinare Camp joins the Under One Botswana Sky family in the Okavango Delta.
Having opened its doors in June, the modern, luxurious and eco-friendly Mma Dinare Camp has already welcomed its first guests. Meaning ‘Mother Buffalo’ in Setswana, Mma Dinare is the perfect accompaniment to Rra Dinare Camp or ‘Father Buffalo’.
Location
Mma Dinare is located in a private concession opposite the game-rich Moremi Game Reserve, overlooking the Gomoti River and surrounding floodplains which becomes a lush animal habitat during seasonal floods.
The camp
Guests seeking a restful getaway with beautiful views and opulent touches need look no further than Mma Dinare. Expectations of fantastic wildlife viewing in a peaceful setting away from the bustling crowds will be met each and every time at this beautiful bush camp.
All communal areas have been built to match other Under One Botswana Sky properties with open and thatched spaces. This allows guests to unwind whilst taking in the natural surroundings and watching wildlife and birds from the comfort of an armchair or the bar.
Shared entertainment areas combine tasteful décor with wooden fittings to mirror Botswana’s effortless natural beauty. Plush couches entice guests to relax as they watch the sun set over the floodplains and listen to the nocturnal bush sounds grow louder.
The sparkling pool will tempt guests to jump right in or soak up the African sun while scouting for wildlife from a sun lounger with a refreshing drink in hand.
Raised decks mean views of the Okavango Delta can be enjoyed from the indoor dining room and lounge. Guests don’t always have to go far to encounter wildlife as visits from plains game can be expected.
In fact, a guest visiting Mma Dinare in August was thrilled to report on TripAdvisor that they had viewed “at least 40 elephants at lunchtime right by the lodge”.
The communal outdoor firepit and indoor dining room offer guests a chance to mingle over chilled sundowners and sumptuous meals. For guests wanting an intimate setting, private meals can be organised for special occasions.
The bar is well-stocked for guests to taste a wide selection of chilled cocktails, wines or thirst-quenching beers. The bartender on duty is well-trained to meet the needs of guests.
Accommodation
Mma Dinare Camp consists of nine guest tents – including a family tent – and one guides’ tent, which all look out over the Gomoti River floodplains. Each of the spacious tents is an impressive 60m2, which excludes the secluded outdoor deck in front.
A living room and verandah accompanies each tent, adding extra space and exclusivity to the tents at Mma Dinare. The canopy combines with the natural shade from the surrounding trees to make this a great place for kicking off shoes and relaxing with a good book.
The ensuite bathroom found in each tent is spacious, with adequate cupboard space and modern fittings. Lighting throughout the tent is soft, creating a cosy and calming atmosphere that contributes to a restful night’s sleep.
An outdoor wooden shower is fitted in each tent, which is lighted softly by downlights or stars at night, creating a romantic and relaxing ambiance.
The family tent can comfortably accommodate a family of four in a spacious and private suite. Two children share one room, with the main room adjoining conveniently to ensure parents can sleep peacefully knowing their kids are safe and secure next door. Children of six years or older are welcome at Mma Dinare Camp.
An eco-friendly development
Mma Dinare is a 100% eco-friendly safari camp, with modern furnishings and a relaxed ambiance. Careful planning and consideration have gone into the building of Mma Dinare to ensure the camp has little to zero impact on the environment.
The camp boasts the latest solar and waste disposal technology without compromising luxury and amenities. Mma Dinare is also designed to blend seamlessly into its natural surroundings, where the wildlife can roam around freely.
Wildlife and activities at Mma Dinare
Whilst at Mma Dinare, guests can expect superb game-viewing opportunities, including lion, leopard and buffalo.
Morning and evening game drives are offered throughout the year, taking to the trails as well as going off-road in order to potentially catch some exciting predator-prey action.
Taking a water safari on the Gomoti River in a dug-out canoe or mokoro is an experience unique to Botswana. Both the mokoro and walking safaris are dependent on the water levels of the floodplains.
Getting to Mma Dinare
Guests will get to Maun, from where a small charter flight will be organised to carry guests 20 minutes across the Delta to the airstrip shared by the Dinare camps. The 45-minute game drive from the airstrip to the camps will orient travellers with the surrounding environment.
Guest review
Paul Changuion, a recent guest at Mma Dinare Camp, had an excellent time with Under One Botswana Sky:
“Game drives and mokoro trips here are led by knowledgeable guides who really go out of their way to find you great sightings. The lodge is elevated above ground level, which allows for stunning views of the floodplain. Since the rooms are connected to the main lodge by walkways, you won’t have to feel concerned about wildlife entering the lodge.”
The Dinare concession safari is the perfect addition to Under One Botswana Sky’s collection. It offers Pom Pom camp on Pom Pom Island as well as Moremi Crossing and Gunn’s Camp, found on the Bora River and overlooking Chief’s Island.
