As the rains in the Nata area start subsiding, the flamingos begin to return to their sanctuary in the shallow saltpans. Over the past 2 years Nata Lodge has seen a massive water influx into the pans, filling the pan to the brim and making it difficult for the flamingos to feed.
With the rains slowing down, the Nata guests are fortunate to be able to see the many shallow pans turning pink with thousands of flamingos returning to their Botswana haven to celebrate the change in season. For avid birders, this colourful fest is an occasion not to be missed.
Not only is Nata Lodge famous for its abundant amount of flamingos, but also for the variety of other bird species that come in all shapes, sizes and colours. This year the Nata Bird Sanctuary is swarming with chirping bird life. Visitors can also spot other creatures, such as telescopic eyed crabs that crawl out after the rain.
With all the bird action taking place in the area, this time of year is certainly the right time to visit Nata Lodge and enjoy its beautiful surroundings.
