Wide, far reaching landscapes and serene, dreamlike atmosphere. This is how the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans is described. It is one of the largest salt pans in the world and entices visitors with its vastness and mystical setting.
Nata Sanctuary, located on the Sowa Pan that forms a part of the Makgadikgadi, is a protected wildlife area and a popular breeding site for flamingos. It’s also a pelican haven and is home to over 150 other bird species as well as a variety of wildlife.
‘We experienced a deep sense of peace, the whole place and its pelicans to ourselves.’ This is how recent Nata Lodge guest, Roxanne Reid, described her visit to the sanctuary.
‘It’s an easy self-drive from Under One Botswana Sky’s Nata Lodge and you might see wildebeest and water birds like pelicans, and experience a sense of quiet solitude.’
Nata Sanctuary is a tranquil, alluring oasis amidst the bare African wilderness.
