Mokoro Excursions in the Delta

Visitors to the Okavango Delta in Botswana can experience a travel treat that many other safari destinations do not offer. A mokoro trip offers a whole new dimension to a safari.

Mokoros are traditional dugout canoes that are distinctive to the Delta. They allow you to explore the shallow waterways with ease and get close to the nature and its curious inhabitants. Drift along the tranquil canals, clothed with papyrus and beautiful water lilies. You may spot a colourful frog hiding in the thick foliage or a hippo pop its head above the water’s surface.

Discovering the magic of the Okavango onboard a mokoro offers a unique way to experience the African wilderness.

Recent Under One Botswana Sky’s Pom Pom Camp’s guests shared their mokoro experiences on TripAdvisor:

‘Another highlight for us was a mokoro excursion. The silent progress of this small boat makes for a wonderfully peaceful experience in this isolated environment.’
– Derek, the UK

‘The mokoro was the highlight for me. A different way of doing a “game drive”. We saw lots of wildlife and birds (which I have never really noticed before) saw two lions “dating” on one of the river banks and a number of crocs. What a treat!’
– Paul, South Africa

‘The highlight was the mokoro trip on the water – it is such a simple pleasure to be on the water listening to the birds while you glide along.’
– sunshinepretoria, South Africa
