Picture blog of Jake & Leah’s Wedding at Moremi Crossing by Claire Nicola, Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer
Once upon a time, there were two magical beings called Jake and Leah. Their love story began as all the best Texan ones do … two stepping the night away and clad in cowboy boots!
I was put in touch with this very special couple through an old school friend (and their superstar wedding coordinator), Cara. At the time, Leah was busy with charity work in Botswana, and Jake was back home and skyping her daily. In Leah’s own words, she left the USA with a boyfriend, and woke up in Botswana as the fiance to the love of her life!
Wedding plans were pulled together quickly and I was fortunate enough to be present the moment that Leah saw Jake at the airport for the first time in three months! Their marriage was as much of an adventure for all the loved ones involved as it was for the bride and groom themselves.
Their chosen venue of Moremi Crossing in the Okavango Delta, is only reachable by chartered flight. Guests were flown in the day before, and transported from the airstrip to a smiling Leah on the dock of the lodge by speedboat. The atmosphere was relaxed and unworried, and Leah’s dream of having a wedding that reveals itself to her on the day came true! There were no stressful months of planning, and arguments over trivial details. Just two people, promising their genuine and unending love to one another with the sounds of the wildlife in the Okavango Delta serenading them into the night. As the bride mentioned to me while she was dressing, “it was good enough for two of Elizabeth Taylor’s weddings, so it’s good enough for me!”.
The couple opted to do their couple shoot as a first look, and could spend some time together before their ceremony. This however, did absolutely nothing to silence Jake’s tears as he saw his bride, clad in her great-grandmothers wedding dress, walking down the aisle towards him. I could try and tell the tale of my memories of this day in any combination of words, pictures and language …
I will however, never be able to accurately share with you what we all felt and experienced on those few precious days in the Delta. Sometimes the most tangible memories are only created to live in your minds eye. I do so hope though, that this blog post will share a little of what is carried in everyone’s hearts and memories of Jake and Leah’s wedding celebration.
